DIFFERENT ICONS SAME OUTFIT, WHAT HAPPENED? (PART 1)

Here's what bothers me. I'm used to grab a coffee at 11.00 with a friend of mine. We work in an Office so we have to dress in a certain way but we both manage to show our personalities. Quite often we possess the same item or a very similar clothing. we hardly match it in the same way, nevertheless we possess pretty identical items.	Adesso vi racconto una cosa che mi ha dato un pochino da  pensare . Ho l’abitudine di prendere  un caffè con una mia amica verso le ore 11:00. Lavoriamo in un ufficio quindi dobbiamo vestirci in un certo modo  ma tutte e due riusciamo comunque a dare un tocco personale. Molto spesso abbiamo dei capi di abbigliamento identici o comunque molto simili. Difficilmente li abbiniamo allo stesso modo ma, comunque sia, possediamo capi praticamente identici.
We have a lot in common but our fashion icons couldn't be that far. My icon is Audrey Hepburn (I think you figured that by now), she prefers Jane Birkin.	Benché abbiamo molto in comune, le nostre icone di stile non potrebbero essere più diverse. La mia icona è Audrey Hepburn (credo che ormai lo abbiate capito), lei preferisce Jane Birkin.

I'm the classic-romantic type, she is the polished-boho one. We both like to get inspired by our favorite star that it is not the same one.  We don't exactly like the same movie and even when we like the same TV show, we don't relate with the same character. So, how come we dress so alike? A few post ago I wondered why we choose a style instead of another and how TV-shows deal with stereotypes.	Io sono un tipo classico- romantico, lei è bohemian-chic. Ci lasciamo ispirare ambedue dalla nostra star preferita che, è di tutta evidenza, non è la stessa. Non ci piacciono gli stessi film e anche quando ci piace lo stesso programma, non ci identifichiamo con lo stesso personaggio. Quindi come mai ci vestiamo in maniera così simile? Qualche post fa mi interrogavo sui motivi per cui scegliamo uno stile piuttosto che un altro e come i telefilm presentano degli stereotipi.

Today I want to do a step forward. We know now why we may love a character and by extension his/her style, what happens when we like the style of someone instead?  Say for instance we like actors or singers or whatever-the-heck-you-like's style? And how much is that style true to the person more that to the image he/she needs to show off?	Oggi vorrei fare un passo oltre. Adesso sappiamo perché amiamo un personaggio e per estensione il suo stile ma, cosa accade quando invece ci piace lo stile di una persona e non di un personaggio? Poniamo ad esempio che ci piace lo stile di un cantante, un attore o quello-che-cavolo-vi-pare? E quanto davvero il loro stile riflette la loro personalità piuttosto che l’immagine che devono mostrare?

If he/she is a singer, probably you first related to his/her music than you became to like the person and by consequence you may want to copy a few hints from his/her style. If you are a teen or a soul still in search of a fashionable identity that would suite you may copy more that hints. It's up to you and how much it makes you feel confident.  When it comes to actors it's more likely you have fallen for a character he/she played and now you may mix-up the character with the person. Either way there is a good thing in following our favorite star style: they actually (most of the time) have style.  Funny thing is they know someone may catch them on camera so they are (almost) always well dressed. A few stars have image consultants and have to dress for their "character" even to take their dogs for a walk.	Se si tratta di un cantante, con buone probabilità, avete prima amato la sua musica poi siete arrivati ad amare l’artista e di conseguenza avrete voluto copiare qualche aspetto del suo stile. Se siete adolescenti o delle anime ancora in cerca di un’identità per quello che riguarda il vostro modo di vestire, magari potreste aver copiato anche più di qualcosina.  Sta a voi ed a quanto vi sentite a vostro agio nei vostri panni. Quando si tratta di attori invece potreste esservi appassionati ad un personaggio da loro interpretato e potreste aver mescolato elementi del personaggio con quelli della persona. Quale che sia la ragione, c’è un lato buono nel seguire lo stile delle vostre star preferite: (il più delle volte)  hanno stile. La cosa buffa è che sanno che potrebbero essere fotografati quindi sono (quasi) sempre ben vestiti. Alcune star hanno dei consulenti d’immagine e si vestono per il loro “ruolo” anche per portare a spasso il cane.

So how they manage to express themselves is the real deal.  We have to divide our favorite stars outfits in three big categories: ·         Events style ·         Everyday style ·         Airport style Of course if their everyday style is also really fashionable it may mean they have either good taste or a very good fashion advisor.  If we like this someone we'll probably look for his everyday style, all the photos we can get. Even better if the photos are from same random fan catching them in the streets.	Il vero problema è come riescano a personalizzare il loro look. Dobbiamo dividere gli oufit delle nostre star preferite in tre categorie: ·         eventi mondani ·         tutti i giorni ·         aeroporto Naturalmente se il loro stile quotidiano è fashion potrebbe voler dire che hanno buon gusto oppure che hanno un buon consulente d’immagine. Se apprezziamo questa persona, probabilmente cercheremo foto del loro stile quotidiano, tutte le foto che riusciamo a trovare. Meglio se fatte da qualche fan che li avvista da qualche parte.
EVENTS    EVERYDAY    AIRPORT
What I gather from my experience is that if you like a character but not the way the actors playing it dress, you'll probably search for items that would remind you of that character but if you happen to like the actor/actress too, than you'll probably get her style no matter the character.	Quello che mi detta la mia esperienza in merito è che se vi piace un personaggio ma non il modo in cui si veste  l’attore che lo interpreta, probabilmente andrete alla ricerca di capi che vi riportino alla mente lo stile di quel personaggio mentre, se apprezzate anche chi lo ha portato sullo schermo, probabilmente imiterete il vostro stile indipendentemente dal personaggio.
Usually stars have an obscene amount of money so their style may appear simple but could be way too far from our possibilities. Anyway in the web there are many "steal the style" photos that help us find a cheaper option.  My friend and I mostly search for our favorite stars' everyday style.	Di solito le star hanno una quantità spropositata di denaro quindi nonostante il loro stile possa apparire semplice, potrebbe essere ben oltre le nostre possibilità. Comunque sia nel web ci vengono in soccorso molte foto “ruba lo stile” con proposte quasi identiche ma più economiche. La mia amica ed io più che altro cerchiamo foto del loro stile quotidiano.
At the end of the day I think we buy similar items because we like to pick what we like and mix it with what our personalities dictate. Anyway in my following post I'll show you my current obsessions and I'll let you decide.	In fin dei conti credo che compriamo indumenti simili perché ci piace prendere spunto ma poi  lo interpretiamo secondo il nostro giusto personale. Comunque, nel mio prossimo post vi racconterò della mia attuale ossessione.
